Social Programme

Sunday, 09 March 2008

The Diplomatic Academy of Vienna (DA) offers postgraduate training which prepares young graduates for the varied challenges of an international career. The Academy equips its students with the academic qualifications, the language training, intercultural competences and management skills which are today the essential and often decisive prerequisites for the successful entry into many international professions and a subsequent interesting career. It is open to graduates of any discipline and of any nationality. After the Opening Ceremony there was a Welcome Reception with Asian snacks and beverages. We also had the opportunity to play the piano, sing and dance!

Monday, 10 March 2008

On Monday evening we had the opportunity to visit to the traditional Viennese “Heurigen 10-er Marie”. “Heuriger” is the Viennese term for the wine of the last grape harvest. And it is also the name of the places where this wine is served. “Let’s go to heuriger” is an invitation that marks the beginning of a sociable evening full of fun.

Tuesday, 11 March 2008

During the free afternoon we offered a guided tour of the United Nations Office at Vienna. In the evening we visited the Viennese Brewery Restaurant "Bieramt".

Wednesday, 12 March 2008

In the evening we visited the most popular bar for young people in the Inner City. Between 7 and 10 p.m. Kaktusbar has its “Happy Hour” with half prize for all drinks.

Thursday, 13 March 2008

On Thursday, we had the choice between visits either to the "Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna" or the Museum of Military History. Three objects dominate this museum: the automobile in which the heir to the throne Francis Ferdinand and his wife were shot in 1914 (outbreak of World War I), the blood-stained uniform of the Archduke and the chaiselongue on which he died.
