Honorable Delegates and Prospectus Participants,
The Organizing Team of the Vienna International Model United Nations (VIMUN) wants to welcome you all to this annual conference of the United Nations Youth and Student Association of Austria - Academic Forum for Foreign Affairs (UNYSA-AUSTRIA - AFA). Since it took place for the first time VIMUN has attracted almost 4000 students and young people from all continents to participate in this five days event. These five days are characterized by intense negotiations, getting to know the working procedures of the United Nations better as well as by cultural exchange, gaining experience and making new friends.
Traditionally, VIMUN gives participants the possibility to enhance their diplomatic skills in view of the fact that it simulates real-life UN conferences and their Rules of Procedure. As a result delegates will be able to get closer insights into the working mechanisms of the United Nations.
The conference 2010 will reflect the spirit of the United Nations by closing old doors of armed conflicts and destruction for opening new doors of peace and understanding among all peoples in the world. Thus, all committees simulated at VIMUN 2010 will pay tribute to this spirit.
2010 marks a special year as Austria is Member of the UN Security Council.
The Organizing Team of VIMUN 2010 expresses its deepest hope that many students and young people from all around the world will take the possibility to participate at the Vienna International Model United Nations in order to strive for a better world of peace and understanding.
