Welcome to the Vienna Model United Nations Club !
 |
The Vienna Model United Nations Club (VMC) has been established to give you the opportunity to improve your negotiation, debating and team-working skills, while finding out more about the United Nations at the same time.
In addition to these goals, our training sessions, will also prepare you for international MUN conferences and of course for the Vienna International Model United Nations (VIMUN), annually held in August. |
In Model UN, students step into the shoes of ambassadors to debate current issues within the UN-framework. They make speeches, prepare draft resolutions and resolve conflicts - all in the interest of mobilizing "international cooperation" to resolve problems that affect the whole world.
During the meetings each participant will have to try representing his/her country's position as realistic as possible. This includes forming alliances with your allies and opposing the claims of your opponents.

One complete session will consist of two consecutive meetings, in which we will debate one topic following the VIMUN rules, practicing the steps of debate and trying to reach an agreement amongst the present states, recorded in a resolution.
All of this makes of course some research necessary, but don’t worry, one of our main goals is to actively help you break into the world of diplomacy. Therefore we have prepared a MUN-Guide for you, which will lead you step by step into the field of MUN. |
In addition to this, we will also prepare a Study Guide prior to each session. Within it, the most important developments, the current situation and the positions of the international key players on the situation will be described. Prior to the first meeting of each session, both the topic and the available positions will be made public on our website. Prospective members may write an E-Mail to the Secretary General, stating which position they would like to represent during the next session. |
